About Know Your Rights Canada

Independent Canadian guides to tenant, worker, and consumer rights, organized by province and sourced to the official rules.

Updated January 1, 0001 • 1 min read

Know Your Rights Canada exists because most everyday legal trouble in this country is provincial, and most explanations online pretend it is not.

A security deposit limit, a rent increase notice, an overtime rule, or a cancellation window can be completely different one province over. We publish plain language guides that start with the province, state the rule and the deadline that goes with it, and link to the official source so any reader can check the rule directly.

Every guide on this site follows the same discipline. The rule comes from the provincial branch, the regulator, or the legislation itself. The guide carries the date it was last verified. Where provinces differ, the guide says so instead of smoothing the difference away.

We are independent. We are not a law firm, we do not take cases, and nobody pays for placement here. This site provides general legal information only. It is not legal advice, and reading it does not create a lawyer and client relationship. For advice about your own situation, contact a lawyer, a community legal clinic, or the provincial office responsible for the rule.

Know Your Rights Canada is based in Manitoba, and Manitoba is our launch province.

How we check our rules

Every rule, rate, and deadline on Know Your Rights Canada is taken from the official provincial or federal source linked at the bottom of the article and rechecked on a regular cycle. Rules change, so each article carries the date it was last verified. This site gives general legal information only. It is not legal advice, and it cannot predict the outcome of your own situation.
